Earth Day Celebration & Peace Fire
Connect with nature, and show your support for Mother Earth!
Shift2Green in partnership with the Des Plaines Park District is sponsoring the 11th Annual Earth Day Celebration at the Historic Methodist Campground. Located on 36-acres of old-growth trees, bordered by forest preserves, the 56-Mile River Trail, and the Des Plaines River.
Families are invited to make craft projects using recycled materials, add a leaf to the Earth Day Dream Tree, plant a bean, learn about community recycling, and receive a free tree sapling. The Coast Guard Auxiliary will talk about protecting our waterways to keep them pollution free by reducing marine debris, and other Exhibitors will be on hand to talk about the benefits of biking and walking, beekeeping, solar, electric cars, and more! You can also play ball with the Chicago Salmon Vintage Baseball Club in Grove 3.
BACK THIS YEAR! The Peace Fire and Water Ceremony. Renowned Peace & Wisdom keepers will be on hand to establish a Peace Fire Circle and perform a traditional native Peace Fire & Water ceremony, to share their knowledge and wisdom. Special guests may include Reiki Guru Ajit Telang of India, Mongolian & Tibetan Shaman, Ojibwe & Lakota Native Tribe elders, World Parliament of Religions, and others.
The Peace Fire serves as a catalyst and anchor for the revitalization project underway to preserve and restore this vital regional historic campground for peacebuilding and interfaith dialogue.
We invite you to meet the leaders who continue to inspire, challenge, motivate and ignite our passions to make a difference. Together we will build on the successes of the peace and environmental movement, for our children, for our future.
